Starter motor

Post by francophile1947 » Sat Sep 19, 2009 10:05 am

I think the contacts in my starter motor may be on the way out - lots of clicking :(
I've found all the info I need about replacing them, but I'm away to Littleport, Blackpool and Silverdale next week and won't have time to get the parts and fit them before I go #-o
Does anybody know if the more powerful starter motor from a Winter model van can be used in a non-winter van? :? I know that they work the other way round, but thought I'd check before swapping them over.

I don't know, but its hard to see why not, provided it fits

If the smaller one can be used in place of the bigger one, they must fit on the same mountings and the number of teeth on the starter ring must be the same, so unless there is something obstructing the body of the starter, it must work I would have thought. I don't remember anything being around the starter on mine to cause such an obstruction. If I still had it I would go and take a look.

Thanks Ste, but it's the good one on my old Bongo that I can't shift  It looks totally different to the one on my Freda anyway, so I've ordered one which may well come to Silverdale with me  - if I get that far
