whats the biggest battery you can get for bongo

Post by stansyerman » Sat Sep 12, 2009 12:24 pm

Right tried to fit a leisure battery and tray there for the nice man from eBay turn out I have 5 relays and not the usual 3 in where the tray goes and no length of cable on them to move out the way. so its on its way back so what I want to know is what is the biggest size of battery can you get for your normal battery and would it be ok to run your stereo and interior lights and 12v TV for a night and the bongo still starts in the morning

110 numax is the bigest I believe, but its a bit of a sqeeze getting it in, and if i remember correctly you have to bend the lip a bit on the mazda bongo standard battery tray (if its the originol and not the grp ebay one)

110 ah yes, but not all 110ah bateries will fit in the opening, the numax ones will as a sqeeze, just make sure before purchasing as I think numax have a new range out and the sizes may be different

Think there's some confusion here, read the first post again Wayne  Sounds like Stan's after fitting a bigger starter battery as the LB tray wouldn't fit because there were relays in the way, so he's not fitting an LB.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Ian Maynard (de Bongomeister) at Bongo Fury (i.e. here!) used to sell them. Check the parts catalogue on here and/or phone/email him and Marianne 8)

I'm looking for a new starter battery at the moment, but I can't find anyone who stocks the battery recommended in the compatible parts list. If I search for batteries for a landrover disco, then I get various choices, none of which are anywhere near the 105ah spec.

Has anyone round here successfully bought/installed a starter battery other than the one in the compatible parts list? If so, what did you get?

Thanks in advance,

John

Doesn't Ian Maynard (de Bongomeister) at Bongo Fury (see my post above) stock anything then? He used to have a 105Ah suitable for a Bongo in his sales catalogue. I bought mine (a 95Ah) from http://www.batmanuk.com/ andit was v. well priced and delivery was next day (I wanted to buy form Ian but needed immediate delivery as old one had packed up). Nearly 3 yrs later its as perky as when new so I think 95Ah is quite sufficient. Defo. avoid a low Ah/ low cranking amps battery though in my opinion as I suspect some of the poor diesel Bongo starting in cold weather probs could be down to glowplugs dimming when starter motor drawing current, due to a low cranking amps battery (e.g. when battery is low rated + tired)
