Manual Gearbox Levels

Post by Bon go north » Wed Aug 26, 2009 1:22 pm

Can anyone tell me how to check my gearbox oil levels on a manual bongo. I keep having issues when the gearbox is warmed up getting the old girl into first gear.

Cheers

Hi,

On most manual cars there is no dipstick. Instead there is a drain hole (at the bottom) and about half way up on one side there is another plug that is your fill hole.

The idea is that you fill up the box thro the fill hole (whilst car on level surface) until fluid starts to spill out.

Maybe worth you just changing the oil, easy and not expensive, but do ensure you can undo the fill hole before you drain the oil out for obvious reasons.

Is your clutch okay and properly adjusted, this could also be the reason why you are having issues?
