Finally got round to trying to sort this out as have had this problem since getting my Bongo!
The drivers side wing mirror doesn't stay in place so when I'm going 70 down the motorway it's flapping about all over the place. I have a electric mirror switch which has never worked so if anyone has got a suggestion as to what may be wrong with it I would be grateful.

Re: Drivers side mirror broken?
Inside the mirror is a (to all intents and purposes) a cog which meshes with a sprocket attached to the motor, this is made of plastic and can wear. The cog is part of the locking mechanism, repairs seem difficult, i sorted the problem on mine by replacing both mirrors as a pair for some chrome items! Up until that stage, i too had developed the annoying (and dangerous trait) of the driver's mirror "flopping" in when above 50MPH
As a temporary fix (lasted 8 months or more) i used black insulation tape wrapped around the mirror base, themn the mirror to hold the two together, it meant the mirror wouldn't fold, (it didn't anyway cos it was broke) but at least i could see to change lanes on the motorway!
I'm not saying there isn't a way of permanently fixing the problem, but replacement was the cure for me.

Thanks for that. Unless anyone else has any ideas a new mirror it will have to be. The electric mirrors do work (although the folding part doesn't) so that's a bit frustrating. I can live without the folding mechanism (although it would be cool to havebigdaddycain wrote:Inside the mirror is a (to all intents and purposes) a cog which meshes with a sprocket attached to the motor, this is made of plastic and can wear. Re: Drivers side mirror broken?
Does it make a noise at all or just do nothing? It may just be a matter of pushing it all the way backwards on itself to "re-engage", or pulling it forward, mine's done this a couple of times over the past coule of years, just seems to need resetting into place, worth a try.

It does nothing at all. When I push it to the 'closed' position it just clicks into place. It just doesn't click in the 'open' position.

Re: Drivers side mirror broken?
So it could be the motor too, OR just possibly the wiring going from the door to the body? The ratchet cog thingy is certainly bust though considering it doesn't lock into place.
