This prompted me to add the door key number to my list of Bongo numbers, along with the number of wheel nut key.

Never noticed before that the key has a number on it. Just hope it is a meaningful one, as the key that came with the Bongo has the old Mazda Lotus flower on it, so may be original.

It is possible to loose both keys to a car. My ex did this and when he went back to Land Rover for the key number found the one on the records did not match :!: Dubious record keeping or dubious Landy :?:

Finly he found someone who used to work for him still had his key, but that was very nearly three new door locks and ignition lock. Too close for comfort.

I tried 2 shops today - the first didn't even have the right template key to cut it, and the bloke was off sick on the second! Its just not meant to be....will have to go further afield tomorrow

HIding them around the house is a great idea - but I won't be able to remember where I've hidden them. I thought I'd lost my mobile phone today and then I realised I was talking on it!! Can you get alzheimers (sp) at 37?

Despite the plethora of peeps on here that seem to be able to get a key cut at the local Timpsons at the drop of a hat - I had a right b*gger of a time getting one for mine that was neither too long, too short, too fat or too thin.

I posted up earlier in this thread the details of H Harold in Sheffield.

Give them the key number over the fone & they post them out same day.

Alternativly try a locksmith. Mine was cut by a local locksmith that had Mazda blanks and works perfectly.

The difficulty is the correct blanks, not the cutting. Unless of course the newer Bongos have more complicated keys.

The number is on the blade of the key. Right at the top, almost under the black plastic cover. It is very faint and you really have to look for it.

If you do not have an original key, it will not be there. The ones I have had cut have a number, but it is only the type of blank used.

A lot of locksmiths can cut from a number. I have had keys cut when locked out either by phoning the holder of the spare key or asking the supplying dealer for the number. Unfortunately for a grey import, the records are in Japan
