I think you can get the key cut from the lock, not sure where the number'll be, but if you take the cowl off around the ignition I'd think it'd be evident. I guess worst case scenario is a new ignition barrel & keys, someone may have one lurking about.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Don't forget the door locks as well (driver's at least)

If you can get, or remember the number from the old key, call this lot.
H Harrold & Sons Ltd
Security House, Moorfields, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 8UG
Tel: 0114 272 4742
They'll have some in the post the same day.
Failing that, I have two complete sets of keys & all 5 (ignition & 4 doors) locks if need be.

I've had a key cut by a mobile key cutter when I managed to lock myself out of an old Nissan Micra. They didn't need a key number or anything and knocked out a fully functional key within a few minutes! Although slightly worrying, it could be reassuring for you I guess.

I did wonder if I could point them in the direction of the BMW next to it
Thankfully, the breakdown cover we had at the time covered it, minus about £20 call out fee. Not many break down cover people do this though. The actual cost would have been nearer £100+ I think

Sorry!

I called a mobile locksmith company today and they were going to charge me 135 quid plus VAT. I thought I was going to have to pay this but i have just found the key!!!!...it was in my jeans pocket and must have come off my keyring somehow! I can't tell you how relieved I am - I think my son is grateful too as the double buggy was locked in the boot and he was getting a bit fed up of walking everywhere!!!. I'm going to get 50 copies made tomorrow!!!
Thank you all so much for your help and advice - its really appreciated
