Suggested Lube for Door and ATF mechanism

Hi guys,

Yesterday whilst I was looking at some bike stuff, I noticed a couple of products for bike chains etc that were dry and therefore didn't attract dirt etc to stick to them.

I have always cleaned and lubricated the door and roof on my car with white silicon grease.

Last week whilst I was away on hols I did get a little sand and grit in the door runner due to a big gust of wind whilst I was near a beach. Wasn't impressed as this isn't a good thing to get in your sliding door mechanism.

Anyway, I'm thinking maybe this dry lube stuff is worth a shot as it shouldn't be so attractive to grit and other muck.

Bought a bottle of Bike Hut dry teflon lube from Halfords for a fiver, there was another couple of makes, both a bit more money, and one that was in a spray can.

I'll let you know how I get on but just thought I'd let you know.

If anyone has experience of using this, or it's a bad idea, please let me know.

I use GT85 or TF2 teflon sprays...... they are Bike lubrication sprays.... works for me and no grit issues......and a quiet roof mechanism..... I am careful with overspray by covering parts not needing lubrication with a rag so that the spray goes direct where needed......including the small plastic wheels on the roof mechanism

Our door roller, the one at the bottom, is really in need of cleaning and lubrication. We use the Bongo for kitesurfing so windy beaches are quite common. The lube sounds good but are there any tips for cleaning the roller prior to lubrication?

Hi,

Did my door and roof this weekend. Made a good difference to the door, moves much more easily.

I cleaned with a cloth, old paintbrush and white spirit. On the lower roller you have to hold the door away a bit from it's open stop to get at the last part of it's path. The last part seems to gather the most mess.

Don't forget the upper roller and also the one in the bodywork behind the door.
