Help! Bongo power loss

Hi all, I'm having a serious power loss problem with my 2.5 auto diesel 4wd (1997).

I first noticed the problem last week while driving up a long incline, the Bongo gradually lost power until I was creeping along at around 30mph. On regaining level ground, I was able to coax my speed back up to 55/60mph, at every subsequent hill I experienced the same problem.

I put the Bongo into the garage on thursday and they confirmed that there was a loss of power noticable at over 2500revs, they also tried blanking off the EGR and changed the fuel filter. However, they could not diagnose the problem and suggested I stay below 2500revs!

The drive home from the garage was sluggish and the problem seems to be getting worse, my poor van will soon be unuseable!

I searched the forums and have checked for a loose or disconnected pipe on the turbo (all ok) and cleaned the banjo filter.
Could it be something to do with the TPS?

This is probably of no help but here goes I had the same problem wi=th My Audi automatic
I was told it was a wiring chasis problem

Check air filter, also try checking the air intake there could a bag or something in blocking it ect

Do a search for exhaust valve if yours is a winter pack model - there's a switch with an engine on it to the right of the steering wheel if it has. The valve can stick and cause power loss

when it sticks doesnt it kick out loads of smoke as well?

Just a thought,....I had a similar problem and found it was a blocked fuel cap, causing a vacuum/fuel starvation, replaced it with one of those plastic 'emergency' ones and I've had no bother since. Heres hoping!

I've checked the air filter, it seems fine, it was put in at the last service (3 weeks ago) also checked air intake, can't find any blockage. It does have the cold start option but it's not switched on, tried flicking it on and off and could hear it working, not sure how to check if it's stuck, there is some smoke but not loads.

Tried listening for any suction when removing fuel filler cap, after having run vehicle. Seems fine. No 'whooshing'!

Problem seems to be worsening, now apparent at less than 2000revs, also using more fuel. How frustrating!

You say you've checked the fuel filter, what about the banjo filter/strainer? info in the factsheets in the members area.

Try taking out the air filter and running without, may be a dodgy air filter

Hadn't scrolled the page up Worth trying running it from a known clean source of fuel, just in case it's a problem with the fuel pick up in the tank? collapsed exhaust baffles is another wierd one to check for.

I still go for a stuck valve in the exhaust box, even though it sounds as though it's working - especially if its getting worse since flicking on and off.......................

Is 2500rpm not when the turbo kicks in?

I had a similar problem, a pipe was not conected that boosted the fuel when the turbo kicked in. Will try to find the original post on the issue

Sorry, no advice I'm afraid but I'll interested to hear a successful outcome as my sister seems to be having the same problem with her Ford Galaxy (auto box).
