V6 thermostat temperature range?
Can anyone tell me what the temperature range is for the thermostat on a V6?

Just putting this back to the top of the list in case anyone missed it and can give me an answer.

Hi graham,
Can I ask what the reason is you need the range as my guess is not many people will have the figures for this?
If you think the car is overheating then it's worth checking it out, it could be something other than the thermostat.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Andy

Re: V6 thermostat temperature range?
Thanks Andy - but no I don't have any problems -
I designed an analogue (LCD) temperature monitor to pick off the signal from the temperature sensor to ECU so I could monitor the coolant temperature. I had it working in my original diesel Bongo for a few months quite successfully before it got written off
Anyway I installed it unaltered into my V6 at the weekend and it is showing about 4 C lower so far on limited runs to work.
So there could be several reasons for this - the normal operating range of the stat being just 1. Unfortunately I don't have any data on the V6 engine sensors (other than its the same coolant sensor) so I'm just trying to gather something so that I can make an educated decision as to what I do next.
I searched Google and found a French site that gave the "initial" temperature for the part number I was giving it but it listed 2 equivalent makes - one at 88 C and the other at 82 C
So not much further forward.
When I get the answers I'll post it up here.
Regards Grahame

Re: V6 thermostat temperature range?
OK,
If you get it working I'd be interested in one !!!
From memory my car was running at 86 degrees C when it was sitting there for ages running.
Maybe the petrol runs a bit cooler than the diesel? I know my mason alarm means the temp gauge now runs just past 12 on the dial, and can go up to 2 on a really long hill with a trailer on....

Re: V6 thermostat temperature range?
Andy,
That's an interesting comment on the mason gauge.
I had one on the diesel Bongo and it tended to read more like 1 o'clock and very often up to the top when gettng the speed / gear / hill right - so it may be that the petrol does run slightly cooler than the diesel.
Anyone else like to comment on that? Dandy perhaps?
So I'm on a quest now - I'll report back if I get anywhere
I'd like to know where you were measuring the 86 C ? - was this from the diagnostics port?
Also looking into the data available through the diagnostics port - by the way is your connector the old Mazda type ratrher than the new 'standard' type?
Regards Grahame

Re: V6 thermostat temperature range?
Ok Grahame, readings from my diesel with the thermostat on the outlet from the head. Digital readout with a thermistor directly in the coolant just before the stat.
Observation was with an 82c stat.
Motorway running at 60/65 mph the coolant modulates from 80 to 90c with the stat controling the temp. With an accurate digital gauge you can see that the stat actually closes at 82c not opens at that temp.
Hope that helps.

Hi 'Grahame at work', just my tuppence worth, my 2.0 ltr is just like Apole's normally Mason shows just over 12'oclock and 2'oclock when pushed hard up hills. The Mason is well worth the buy.
Hope this is of some help.
Colin.
