RX8 Load rating 92 XL or 96

Post by Slatch » Mon Aug 17, 2009 6:01 pm

Hi,

I've been looking into getting new tires for my new RX8 alloys, i have looked at quite a few but 95 seems to be the maximum load rating i can find for a 225/40/18 but will a 92 XL (extra load) be adequate?

Thanks

Will

No, and if you do go for it make sure you don't run into any on my family - your insurers will probably walk away...................

225/40x18 are too small anyway - 225/45x18 or 2i5/50x18 are better, but you'll still have a problem finding any with the correct load index (at a reasonable price anyway).

What about 245/45x18 for size? Am I right in saying a minimum 97 rating would be safe for load? What you say about prices is right, if you buy big brand and don't shop around, you could blow a grand doing all four corners.

yes, i have just read on the mazda forum that people have used upto a 245 width on a rx8 rim, but i have just found a 235/40/18 97w for less than 50 quid, so might go for that! Thanks

235/40x18 are only 2.42% smaller than the originals, so your speedo won't me much faster than your actual speed. A 40 profile might give quite a hard ride though.
