Ripped Roof Tent Mesh

Post by Border T » Tue Aug 11, 2009 8:23 pm

Hello all, has anyone been able to repair a ripped tent mesh ?? Just caught mine and put a small rip into it ,problem is it seems the mesh fabric feels very thin and fragile probably due to many years of sun /UV.?? Do any of the spares people sell or repair the tents and at what cost....thanks for any advice

You can repair a tear with spinnaker tape (used for sails). If it's really rotten you can take the roof tent itself out, then you can remove and sew in a replacement flyscreen or take it to a tent repairer. (Instructions for taking the roof tent out are 'bongo spec' page on website link below). If you don't fancy removing the roof tent, I guess you could cut away the flyscreen and glue a new one in - I've never done this, I think it would be tricky but achievable.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth

I'm sure I remeber someone fixing a ripped mesh with some net curtain or something similar? In fact Lidl or Aldi quite often have flyscreen mesh in (in black or white) for a few quid, may have been that?
Had a thought on the rooftent mesh deteriorating, seems some people use the roof tent zip as a night time loo, can't imagine that does the mesh any favours [-X
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
