HELP - MY ROOF WONT CLOSE !!!!!!

Post by alibabi » Sun Aug 09, 2009 2:45 pm

Anyone got any ideas how to close my electric top roof, both fuses 10 and 12 are ok, funny thing is the warning light and roof alarm sounder initiates when the handbrake is off but when you pull the brake on the warning light and sounder stop. The handbrake switch appears to be working as you would expect. however in either position the roof will not go down.

If the roof doesn't go fully up & stop beeping - it's not locked out & fully up, therefore you won't have to use the lock cancel button, as Franco says, sounds like it's the first time you've had a full erection  If it doesn't stop beeping, lower a few inches & raise it again, usually sorts it, make sure the hatch is open & you aren't creating a vacuum as it lifts. Sometimes the roof tent gets a bit stiff & crumpled, holding the roof back, unzipping it can help to get it to lock out but sometimes a little helping hand is needed to push it up into the locked position.
As long as the handbrake is on, the gear it's in shouldn't matter - I just tried it on mine to check

Top tip from Chell & Ady that cured mine is a liberal squirt of Spry Crisp & Dry on the hydraulic rams.

Sweet as a nut now.

Glad it's been solved so easily - looked in the Handbook and the procedure to overide the locking mechanism, using a toogle rope [supplied when new?] looks a bit of a nightmare!

Must admit never left it in any other gear apart from P when parked.
