Try jump starting it to rule out the solenoid.

just jump started bongo,1st time start, left it running for a bit and keeps starting now, think kirsty was right about battery drain, think it would drain the new battery if the old one ws knackered, and being left for 2 weeks hasnt helped, off to buy another battery, good deal only £55 . thanks everyone dave

If you've still got it set up as twin start, disconnect the second one (once it's been fully charged) - at least you'll have a fully charged battery ready to go if it is draining.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

£138 alternator, plus about 30 mins work to take off and fit new one .

Yes but then the cost of a new battery on top of that as it will probably be fubar, hopefully the new battery is still ok and not been damaged already

Why should the battery be damaged because the alternator packed up ?

The old jap batteries are on their last legs anyhow, mine were fine but was stood for 2 weeks while it was in the body shop after I was rear ended, tried to boost them up, and nothing they wouldnt even take any charge at all, if they stay flat for so long they just wither and die, you might have been lucky
