I have searched the forums and also looked at the factsheets, but cant see anywhere the fuse for the rear lamp. have checked the bulb and the front lamps work just not the rear.

am i right in thinking that it will fail mot without it?

It will fail the MOT without it.
Probably an in-line fuse as they are aftermarket fittings - not needed in Japan. Have you tried looking for any non-standard switches, often tucked under the dashboard.

Rear fog lamp is a retro fit, so it could be anywhere, trace the wiring from the back of the switch. Could even be a loose connection. Is your's a dangly jobbie, flush fit in the bumper or modified reverse light?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Thanks for that =D> , I had wondered what the funny little switch on the steering column was #-o . put 2+2 2gether and yeah it's the rear lamp.
