drivers seat very hot!!
seems i have heated seats... My drivers seat is getting very warm. the engine seems to be getting very hot but temp gauge stays at 11:00/11:30 im worried. does everyone get a hot bum? even seat rails feel hot? i dont hear any fans running unless blowers/aircon are running!
Is this normal?
Thank You Alex

Re: drivers seat very hot!!
Maybe the scavenger fan in the engine bay area ( underneath the front seats !) isnt coming on when it should.
I'm sure a scavenger fan expert will be along in a minute to confirm

Re: drivers seat very hot!!
Apart from scavenger fan, are all your seat clips tight? A poor seal, around the engine cover, will let hot air in and it gets trapped underneath the carpet, thus warming your seat.

If you're relying on your standard temp guage to tell you anything, you're wasting your time, it has to get really hot before it starts moving, it's been dumbed down so it doesn't scare people by moving apparantly. A lot of us have fitted a Mason alarm - http://www.townace.plus.com/ie/ietemga2.htm - easy to fit, resensitises the temp gauge & provides a settable alarm.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
Re: drivers seat very hot!!
Sounds like you have been given the possibilities
First Lift the drivers seat and slightly bend the clips that lock the seat down to the body, this will tighten the seal, to see if this eliminates the hot seat!
If it doesnt work check the fuse for the scavenger fan, its located under the bonnet in the large fuse box of the 2, its the last 30amp fuse on the bottom row.
you can also check to see if the fan is working by disconecting the fan sensor its by the handbrake, if the engines running and you disconnect the plug the scavenger fan starts

Hi
Now that you have all the Bongo possibilities, I should also hang fire on the Chicken Phals for a fortnight...might prevent a hot seat
Cheers

Yes it is, the exact location can vary between models, but always in the block of relays located under the Starter Battery the row nearest the Bulkhead, normally the 3rd from left when looking down from over the radiator;

Its B6-06 your looking for

Re: drivers seat very hot!!
It gives an extra level of protection, but probably not necessary if you've got the TM2/coolant alarm combo or the High temp alarm/coolant combo. It's all about choice, most people will probably never have a problem, but it's insurance in case you do, I've got both mason & coolant alarm (with high level add on) as well as a prototype Haydn Hi temp alarm I was testing for him ( does a similar job as the Mason - but without tapping into & altering the temp gauge & it has a seperate temp probe) as well as a cheap digital 0 -120 degree C temp display I got from Ebay for around a tenner.PisceanJoy wrote:Excuse this ignorant question from a newbie

Re: drivers seat very hot!!
All you have to remember is that UNLESS you fit a Mason Alarm the standard temp gauge should be ignored, as it just doesn't do anything meaningful otherwise.missfixit70 wrote:It gives an extra level of protection, but probably not necessary if you've got the TM2/coolant alarm combo or the High temp alarm/coolant combo. If you have a simple low coolant alarm, that only does just that - warn of low coolant, then yes, fit a Mason alarm to give you visual and audible warning of high temps.
But if you have one of the later "all in one" coolant AND temp alarms, you have no real need to bother with a Mason alarm - you also have no reason whatsoever to ever consult the standard temp gauge again, as it remains meaningless in normal usage.
