Muted Fog horn??

Noticed it a couple of times when accelerating up hill, a noise I can only discribe as a muted fog horn from under the passenger side somewhere? It sound like some sort of pump engaging???

Anyone?

Does it also make the noise when you press the accelerator pedal and are stationary ?

So it's not just to do with the engine then, must be to do with something that moves along, transmission or bearings in the wheels etc.

The only time I've heard a 'muted foghorn' sound from ours was as it boiled up. As yours hasn't done this and you don't mention the temperature gauge moving, can we (fingers crossed) rule this out?

Thankfully! Its very sporadic and generally happens when going up fairly steep long hills and accelerating...thought it might be the turbo but Ive heard this since and its much quieter, so other option....could it be a pump of some sort fuel etc?

The only thing i can think of regarding the noise you describe...
& this is similar to a water softener linked to the central heating in our house that used to make a howl late at night while it was running its program... Since a (a long over due) service & recon it's been quiet!

Could you have a blocked hose/rad? sticking thermostat in the cooling system that could create this noise under duress..?
Do you have the usual temp coolant level alarm?
A belt?
Busted manifold studs squeal don't they??
Just a thought!

I was looking for reasurance now Im starting to get really worried!!!

Havent got a digi temp gauge/warner etc but the temp gauge stays the usual 11o'clock, belts are all fine and manifold studs are good. Im not overly concerned...well wasn't

Just curious more than anything but as no-one else gets the noise I think a trip to the garage is in order.....MOT due soon anyhow
