Hi all...ordered some new rear discs for the brakes as mine are pitted, Im changing the pads as well. Just wondered is it a big job to change them and what problems should I look out for? I was hoping there was a fact sheet on it but there doesn't seem to be.
All advice gratefully received as usual,

Re: disc replacement
sounds to me that you are like me and have never attempted a job like this before, and to be honest i cant belive that you and so many people would even attempt to fit brakes without knowing what to do and how to do it correctly, because i for one have seen the damage that can come from someone attempting to do this incorrectly . a member on this site was crushed by a car after someone had taken his car to a garage after first trying to fit brakes but they failed when the car was on the ramps and he is still recovering now after 2 or more years .
so i dont know if you have any experience or not but i hope others read this before attempting what might seem like an easy job and remember you could easily turn your vehicle into a lethal weapon .

Re: disc replacement
its not hard
about 20 minutes a side
dont forget to chock front wheels
as you need the hand brake of
do one side at a time
remove caliper and old pads
disk will come of easy
and replace in reverse
remove cap on master cylinder
take care if its been topped up fluid might overspill
and i uses a claw hammer
and bit of wood to push the cylinder in to get thicker new pads in

Re: disc replacement
.. You can also use a 'G' clamp or similar to ease the pistons back. as mentioned, quite an easy job to carry out.
Brake shoes can be a bit fiddly, but discs and pads are a breeze!

Re: disc replacement
Just to add my comments:
There was a factsheet in the members area, but I seem to recall it was incomplete / incorrect for the rear pads.
Brake fluid is hydroscopic which means it absorbs water, which will turn to steam when it gets hot which can lead to the brake pedal going all the way to the floor. Plus, it will cause corrosion in the pipes & other brake components. It is generally recommended that all the fluid is replaced every two years. How many cars (not just Bongos) have not had this done?
If in doubt, take it to a Bongo-friendly garage or a brake specialist - this sort of thing is not worth messing with unless you are 100% confident with tackling it.
