Central Locking Key Remote

Post by MintyMat » Fri Jul 17, 2009 11:30 pm

Hi, I've central locking and a remote key fob but it's starting to play up. The "unlock" button always works but the "lock" hardly ever does. Can I get a replacement remote cheaply or do I need to get the whole system rewired? Any advice/experience appreciated.

I'm probably asking the obvious, but have you tried a new battery?

Sorry, should have said, yes - I've replaced the battery. Problem is the same.

Have you tried that stunt they showed, i think it was on top gear , a few years ago where you get your central locking key and walk away from your car untill it wont operate the locks because its out of range, then put the key against your head, point at the car and it will operate the locks. it actually works

Sounds fun, but I will probably only be able to unlock the car as however close I put the remote when locking it rarely locks.

Looks useful, but does it explain why unlocking always works and locking rarely?

From reading it, I got the impression that faults can be due to either the remote locking sensor (and it tells you where it is so you can check it yourself) or the key fob.

Thanks. I'll have a look inside the driver's door panel and check the wiring. I always thought the little sensor near the windscreen on the driver's side of the dashboard was the door sensor - I wander what that's for?!

Probably not related to any problems in the earlier posts, but been having remote locking problems myself, it will lock the drivers door but not any other, been like this a couple of weeks, i have found the answer but it cost me £80.
It turned out my leisure battery was duff and not holding a charge, new leisure battery (hence the £80) and all is working as it should. :D
Happy, but a bit short in the wallet now. #-o

Good point Dave, that was the first thing that started playing up when I had alternator/LB problems.
