Still trying to get to grips with this engine, but, from what I can understand, on the crankshaft there's a cog, this cog connects to two shafts by a series of cogs (one shaft on each side of the engine). The shaft on the drivers side of the engine drives the fuel pump and vacuum pump. The cambelt then takes the motion from the fuel pump up to the camshaft.

On the majority of engines the camshaft drive is usually taken directly off the crankshaft by a belt or chain. Sadly on the bongo diesel if you loose drive to the fuel pump then the drive to the camshaft is lost - it potentially has the same effect as a broken cambelt.

The cambelt drives the camshaft FROM the injector pump which is driven from the crankshaft by gears.
