getin my head round coolant bleeding,b4 fit heatexchanger

Post by chipvan » Mon Jul 06, 2009 9:31 am

Hi guys iam still stuck on the whole bleed thing,

I am in the middle of fitting a twin tank veg oil kit and on the heat exchanger stage now.

I want to tap into the coolant line and wonder if i clamp both sides of the pipe and cut the hose, what would be the best way to make sure all is toped up correctly and no air stuck in there.

Or is it best to just drain out and dont clamp,ie start from a full drain down,?

The coolant and bottle is clear so i think it was done 3 weeks ago when we got the van

any comments welcome..

ps thanks for the chat (the great p),iam just a little thick here!

i would probably drain down and replace the coolant myself - did mine today for the first time as I had to replace a weeping radiator and I caught that before even the coolant alarm would have gone off, such is the smell of antifreeze

I had the factsheets and also 2 Japanese web sites to work from and did mine as a combination of them all.....having bled some difficult systems on small cars before I found the Bongo quite straightforward even though it has 2 heaters.....

I just did mine cause of leaking rad and replaced two front hoses for now .
I was not looking forward to it at all.
But now it's done i am not that mesmorised by the black magic that is bleeding. hopefully ive correctly bled mine.
There is nothin like doin it yourself to help you fully understand the way its done.
When air stops spitting out and only fluid comes out then job done (i think).
If your half way confident with a spanner then read up and.................................
Go on dive in the waters lovely
