tyre size help requested

Post by Pete Mac » Tue Jul 07, 2009 2:29 pm

I bought my van from JAL afew months ago, bit only today have I notice that I have two diffrent tyre sizes front and rear.
The front tyres are 195/80/15 and the rear are 215/70/15, is this normal and more to the point is it safe! Can anyone also give me what tyre pressures should these tyres be set at, many thanks Pete.

They are the right widths, but the wrong profiles, standard size is 195/70-15 front and 215/65-15 rear.

There is a plate (or should be!) inside the driver's door opening showing tyre sizes and pressures.

The numbers aren't and that's the important bit.

I believe some later ones had those sizes that you've got - I think most of us fit the same size all round when replacing them, usually 215/65 or 215/70 (depending on what size you originally had fitted).

Yes, mine's plated for 195/80, 215/70 - although it's running on 215/70s all round at the moment. If you drop down to the earlier production Bongo's 70 and 65 profiles, or fit 215/65s all round, your speedo will read a bit fast - and you'll lose valuable ground clearance, also possibly related to uprated longer travel springs.
