Key Stuck!

Post by wyefish » Thu Jul 02, 2009 11:19 am

My wife has just called me to say that she cannot get the ignition key out of the lock in our Bongo!

Any ideas?

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

She's told me that it's definitely in park and it still won't come out! Ah, well!

Did something similar to big daddy cain's advice and it worked as had same problem sometimes. Switched to the spare and no problem since then.

Thanks for all the speedy advice!

In the end the RAC came out to her and got it out with magic and WD40! The man said to her that she was the third stuck key that day, something to do with the heat? Stranger things have happened! Said that the key was wonky and advised a new one!

The saga continues! Later that day Vron set out to come home but this time she could'nt get the leaver out of Park. After a panicky phone call I borrowed a friends car and drove over to see for myself. Sure enough, it wouldn't budge. I took the surrounding consule and the handle off, but could not get any further with the problem. Decided to call RAC. 4 hours later they arrived! For a while the man was as mystified as myself but after much playing around the gear lever slipped out whilst the footbrake was depressed. This now appears to be the procedure every time I want to drive!

Again,The RAC man seemed inclined to blame the unusually hot weather (slightly obssessed there!) It was at this point that I vaguely remembered a thread on here about the same problem. Maybe the hot weather would'nt let my brain out of Park!

The Bongo is a strange and wondrous beast! (or is it just 'aving a larf!')

Not sure I follow you...........

You SHOULD have to do that.

It's the same with ALL automatics, even "Quickshift" automated manual boxes.

You MUST have the footbrake depressed to move out of park - if not there is a problem with the linkage.

Stupid as I am, I did not realise that! When I drive the Bongo I automatically have my foot on the brake when I start, so what you say now becomes obvious! Please forgive a man facing incipient senility!

Gotta agree with Scanner.
I put my foot on the brake when starting & to get out of park on the Bongo.

My partner has had a Micra with a keyless entry system for the last 6 years & though it's not an automatic, i'm used to that procedure to turn the key-less ignition Morphy Richards style knob to start the Micra anyway..
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...
