Unkown device - help needed?

Post by stevec » Tue Jun 30, 2009 5:55 pm

hello

Help needed: after disconnecting the main battery to recharge it and then reconnecting it, I now have a constant bleeping noise.

The sound is coming from a device below the steering wheel, can anyone tell me what this black box is for? And how I may reset it to stop the bleeping, picture of the black box on the link below

thanks

Last time I saw one of those was in a James Bond film - when it stops bleeping - run!

I would say that its a turbo timer or one of the headlight dimmer things

no flashing light, just the bleeping. i have tried swithing off and back on again but no luck.

i thought i read somewhere on the site that it may be a remote control starter??

but i wanted to make sure its ok to remove it or leave it off

If it is a remote starter, i don't think it would hurt to turn it off...?
Does it stop beeping if it's switched off then..?

I assume you don't have the remote fob that came with it?

It's connected by wires have you traced them out to see where they go?

yes the beeping does stop when swithed off, the wires appear to go up towards the ignition, not fully traced them yet though

thats the thing I thought it could be #-o , but I wrote it could be the light dimmer thing, I have a dimmer on mine but dont know where it is to locate it, but I have a switch on mine to turn it on or off but it doesnt beep.

So i would say it deffinatly a remote starter as turbo timers have dials or numbers/ buttons to set the timer for the engine to shut down.

If you dont have the fob then you may as well take it out, dont know where the wires would lead to but just disconect it from the conector block and see if your bongo still starts?, gets rid of the beep but the wires will still be conected up to the ignition and starter motor and glow plugs ect.
