cam belt

Am I right in thinking that my 1997 Diesel 2.5 Bongo which has now done 118000 km is due to have a cambelt change? I have no guarantee that it was done when imported.

I think I'd get it done for peace of mind if you've no idea when it was done, though strangely I've not heard one case of a cambelt failure/wrecked engine on a Bongo yet. But I think 60k miles (but check as I'm not sure) is the recommended change interval (age also has a bearing I suspect as the material will deteriorate with age).

I think its 100,000km, (about 60,000 miles) or 10years. Mine was done in Japan at the 10 year point using a service sheet for 100,000km. =D>

If it was done then you might have some evidence. Mine has, as well as the signed off service sheet, a sticker by the belt giving mileage and date of change plus painted timing marks.

Not too big a job on a diesel and worth doing since its a wrecked engine if it does snap.
