Mine ticks over quite low (750rpm according to gauge) and you feel the vibrations from the diesel in a way you never would with a modern petrol engine. But its not unpleasant to me and I've come to love it and now just see it as part of the character of the Bongo. Once on the move, it disappears. I suspect some Bongos are smoother/quieter than mine (no idea why) but I'm happy with the 'Yorkie Bar Factor'. 8)

I think so. Its a little slower when stopped with autobox in 'D' than when in 'N', so you can ease things a bit if stationary for some time by putting car in to 'N' (keep footbrake on while moving from N to D to avoid a clunk in the transmission). Also, putting aricon on causes revs to drop as engine works harder. However, a sensor should raise the tickover back to where it should be when you do that although I've heard of some not doing it due to faulty sensor.

There is a throttle lever end stop adjustor screw I believe so you could choose to raise tickover that way, but honestly I think yours is pretty normal and its just a question of getting used to it, which I found you do and really start to quite like as part of the character of a diesel Bongo. My Toyota petrols often ended up with low tickovers that didn't feel good, but the Bongo tickover always feels like a healthy heartbeat. . At the otehr end of the scale, I find the Bongo diesel feels lovely, with bags of torque and doesnt make an intrusive noise (unlike my Spacewagon used to do) when working between 40-65mph (which is typical speed when the Bongo is where it belongs - on the open road).

Hi
Mine gets a bit lumpy and 'orrible in the warm weather when the aircon. is on full blast, but when it runs at two divisions (so to speak, plus a little bit  all is cool 8) ...that's around 700/750...the 2 divisions is theoretically660 , if the reverend counter is accurate...all those little busy vicars
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Try switching your aircon on & off, do the revs go up with the aircon on, or do they go down?
When the engine is cold, does it tick over higher for the first few minutes (ac off)?
Could be one or both of the vacuum solenoids on the forward end of the head under the drivers seat fubar, not a big issue, reasonably easily sorted.

have a look at the vac pipe to the right, drivers side just above the glowplugs, the left ones for the egr valve and the right one controls the revs when you put on the air con (so they dont drop)
