Northwest Meets Dagerously Noisey - Proposal

Post by Harry » Sun Jun 21, 2009 11:53 pm

All Northwest Region meets are open to any member of Bongo Fury/Bongo Fury Forum and their guests whether they are from up't norf or not. Here are a couple of proposals for organising future Northwest meets:

1. Wherever practicable meet organisers will try and allocate a quiet area for antisocial peeps who don't wish to be disturbed by other peeps partying into the early hours. This quiet area will normally be at the furthest point from the toilets, with no hookups, and with a slurry pit nearby.

or

2. The open invitation to Northwest Meets is hereby withdrawn to any person who may object to the majority of people enjoying themselves.

Let me know which you prefer (or even if you like both) and I'll incorporate it into our constitution ( in the words of the bogomiester himself...if I can be ar*ed.)

As somebody who has kept out of this argument up to now, but who did hear the noise from the "social" partiers at God know what time in the morning - I object to being called "anti-social".

And I don't take kindly to a patronising post like this.

If it was intended to be "amusing" it failed.

Patronising!!!!!!....since when has democracy been patronising!!!!
Antisocial...being antisocial only applies if an individual/individuals break the social mores of the society in which they are in. Therefore if the society at large accepts partying until the early hours then the anti social person is the person who reacts agianst it....and vica versa.

Just getting the NW peeps to decide what they want then everyone knows where they stand...or sit...at Northwest meets.

Of course anyone can organise a meet at anytime for anyone...try it sometime...but the NW crowd do something every few weeks and have a hard core of willing volunteers and participants including our adopted yorkshire tykes and other adopted peeps from as far away as Bristol.

Would't dream of trying to influence how other regions or bongo fury organise their meets....but seeing as how its been mentioned I was parked within a few yards of the NW marquee at Stourport, went to bed at about 11.00 and never heard a peep.

Hi Brian...I've no idea who was making a racket but hints have been dropped that it was either the Welsh contingent or the North West...non of the 'moaners. have actually said....Of course NW was the only region to have its own social marquee (tucked away down by the river) but as usual it was invaded by loads of furriners and I suspect some of the security patrol..

As a former Meet organiser in the NW/Yorky area I cant let this post go and not add something.Hope I dont upset anyone but its been said its a democracy so here goes !

In my view whatever wherever any Meet is organised by the Bongopeeps surely its best practise to adhere to the rules and regs of any campsite used to ensure that we are welcomed back the next time we organise a meet at the same place.

I had specific worries on the few camping meets that I did manage and be left alone to be allowed to get it together namely the noise levels and the duration into the small hours of some of our members.Screeching laughing and screaming at 3 am isnt exactly conducive to good campsite relations really is it?

This isnt a citicism but surely its best to employ the curfew rule of the site and gently remind the party animals among us that they are being exessive,I dont say this as a killjoy either or party pooper but it seems common sense to not only preserve our GOOD name but also have consideration for the other site users who have generally paid more than us per night anyway due to the usual rally rate organisers negotiations that usually take place pre meet.

Its a shame to place a constraint on what is for everyones enjoyment but its up the the masses who dont usually say something to have a say in this after all as said its a democracy.

In my opinion and I say this as a non user of the NW marquee at the Bash we now have two distinct groups up here in the North the peeps that like to party and the peeps that like to camp, it may be a reasonable suggestion to point out as a meet is in its organisational infancy as to which "side" it may fall Im sure some people would prefer a quiet life or one with a bit of party but with an adhered to curfew.

just my thoughts on it all,no offence meant to any side or type these are just suggestions from one who suffered in trying to organise things for the good of everyone.

Everyone has the right of complaint and hats off the the brave peeps that have brought this one up,you have a right to voice an opinion!!

As I have said before meet organisers deserve medals especially the ones that happen to worry to try and please everyone, which is fast becoming impossible!!

Nuff said, carry on

=D> Well said Dave :D

We were not at this/these meets and therefore are really not entitled to comment BUT -

Dave has hit the nail on the head here - we do not mind peeps enjoying themselves but as Dave says if a campsite has rules that state an 11 o'clock curfew (for noise) then it should be adhered to, failure to comply could end up in Bongo Fury getting a bad reputation and having difficulties getting future venues.

We have been camping for nearly 20 yrs now (and I am really looking forward to getting home soon  ) and we have had to put up with those that are determined to cause a nuisance to fellow campers in the early hours of the morning and it is not fun, thankfully it has been few and far between.

So please, by all means enjoy yourselves - party and have fun, but be considerate to the site and to fellow campers then everybody can be happy :D

Harry, I take your post with the good humour it was intended with. You may say I have the splinters in my rear here, but I understand also that at a main event such as this not everybody is going to be happy. Hopefully to try clear up any confusion - As far as I'm aware from the patrol we had around for a friendly chat (who were incidentally only around because of late arrivals) and when I was out and about myself, the NW marquee wasn't the cause for such a related complaint on the noise.

If I've missed something here then I apologise, but it's just my tuppence. By the way thanks Harry and everybody else in the NW crew who helped to make it such an enjoyable weekend 8)

Democracy ?? What democracy??
I don't recall anybody being offered a vote as to whether or not anybody else (whosoever they were) should be able to shout and holler into the early hours.

Hopefully next time it happens someone will democratically back their Bongo up to the offending Tent/Marquee/Gazebo/Awning/other erection and sit there with their foot flat to the floor.
If that's their choice of how they wish to enjoy themselves, it must OK.

Well I'm glad my post stirred up some discussion. The NW peeps (and this is the NW section) know me and know I'll often play the devils advocate to get a relevant topic discussed. Thats why it wasn't posted anywhere else on the forum.

As a regular meets organiser (usually about 3 a year) I appreciate feedback but if you put a straight question on here it can sound really snotty.

Sorry if some peeps thought I was being serious.

Formulating some guidelines at the moment for new meet organisers to help them dip their feet into what can sometimes turn into a nightmare but is usually a very rewarding activity.

cheers

My thread was locked on this very issue, and I was told it was confrontational as I titled it ignorance!!

Couldn't hear them!! Why should I get out of my tent at 1am and walk up a field and ask people do keep the noise down...!? The sheet we ALL got when booking the site pitches, says no exessive noise after 11pm. Singing every song so loud it could be heared 100 yards away is exessive... Plus as they are only 50 yards away from the static caravans. I am betting there will be complaints from that area. Hence why I won't be suprised if we are as a group are not made welcome in the future. You can see in the site phone box the fact that complaints do get made, and dealt with.
It's just simple guidelines and respect for fellow campers

AND THIS IS A REPLY FROM A MODERATOR THAT WASN'T EVEN THERE!!
Well, I am afraid if there was excessive noise then you should have had the guts to just go up and ask them to turn it down a bit as you were trying to sleep, not just come on the forum and complain :?

I hate to think if you came to one of the local meets (yorkshire and north west) where people get to gether to have a laugh and a drink, and dont go to bed till the early hrs  , We have people come from scotland and from bristol everytime to our meets because we know how to party and have a laugh and they do too.

If we are making too much noise then people who know and come to the meets will ask us to tone it down abit. Nothing hard about that!, Then we all quieten down or go back to someones caravan as not to upset anyone further.

To be honest this is the reason I DONT go to Ians organised bashes, simply the fact is that its not just a getaway break for me, its the friends and local people who get together and have a drink and a laugh who like to have a party, On one of the organised ones I went to it wasnt like that at all, everyone wanted to take a photo of each and every bongo and talk bongo then go to bed by 9 pm. Wasnt my idea of fun so never went to another
Well anyway hope you enjoy your rest of the bash, and just tell them next time, wont hurt by asking them to keep it down abit!

so my reply to it is....

It's not about guts!!! Plus I know how to PARTY \:D/ and I am a YORKSHIRE man, but I know how to respect others and simple rules. a time and a place, this site wasn't the place for late night party's, if it was I may well have had to bust a few moves myself, but my primary concern was the effect on the bongofury as a group, then my long drive home tired as hell!!

At the end of the day we are there as visitors, as a large group and each person should respect the fact that their actions will reflect on the whole group, like breaking a simple time limit on noise could end up with us not been welcome there again. which would be a shame as it is quite central in the country and gives a good chance to met people from all corners of the country, plus its a great place.
Sorry if that was confrontational!!
