cruise control waeco or audiovox ?

Hello all, I wondered if I might get some sage advice on retro fit cruise controls. I am in the process of buying and fitting all the buzzers and bells to the bongo, and would like to fit a cruise control system. I have read back through previous posts and the waeco seems the most popular, but seems to have gone out of production. So anyway I have found it for sale still on ebay, but also found an audiovox (also mentioned on here), which seems much cheaper, and still made, and pretty similar. I just wondered why most had gone for waeco and if it is worth the extra cash, or is the audiovox garbage with some hidden extra cost?

This was what I bought and originally fitted to my 405 before trasnsfering it to the Bongo. It was/probably still is the Waeco 50.

thanks for that link. I have looked at that site and found it difficult to pick out the required componants, so you made things easy, but that unit is more expensive again. decisions decisions

People have gone for the Waeco because in the past they could be got for under £80, easily fitted and work wonderfully - not many went for the Audivox because until recently nobody knew they were available.

Waecos have not only gone up in price (in €s) but the euro has also risen against the pound and this has virtually doubled the cost.

Thanks scanner, in that case nobody knows of a problem with theaudiovox it just wasn't heard of 'cos it comes from the states. I take it you know of people who have used it and had no problems?

Only the person you no doubt read about it from on here.

I know of lots of people who have fitted Waecos and just one with a problem with a duff control box so far as I know.

But - as I say just the one Audiovox user, so far, who says he has had no problems, so far.

The version from Conrad Anderson is very similar to the Waeco, but they claim it is more reliable - but they would say that though, wouldn't they?

Hmm, as usual all very helpful, but in the end I will have to decide for myself which one to go for. I reckon my love of a bargain (a modern euphemism for tight) will mean that the audiovox wins out. Unless I hear some real winning argumants either way. cheers for the input

Thats what I would do, in the adventurous spirit of Bongoing. If it does turn out to be a dog, it won't have been a very costly one. But there's no reason to think, on the evidence so far, that it will be.

That's the one I bought for a motorhome and found I couldn't use.

When I bought the one for my Bongo they were less than £80...............

Nothing - just that the motorhome had the wrong sort of accelerator system for it to be fitted to - no cable.

I (and some others) had a helluva time with WHR Online. The Waeco got lost somewhere in Germany but it took a long time and several phone calls to Germany to sort it out. They eventually refunded me but I lost out through the pound devaluing by the day last year.........

My second one (from WHR) arrived OK in less than a week.

Well from what you have all said I think I might be spending a few yankee dollars in the coming days, as opposed to a few more Euros. Cheers
