blown fuses
Help, as mentioned in one of my earlier postings when I first bought my Bongo earlier on this year I asked why my parking lights were always on, several sugestions but nothing definate. well today I noticed they were off and I thought great maybe it was a fault that had rectified itself, how wrong I was when I went into the tunnel and went to switch on my lights nothing so when I got home I decided to investigate and low and behold not only had the lighting fuse blown but 4 others were also blown along with one of the headlights. one blown fuse is the glowplug!!! what does this do as the van still functions?. thinking about what could have caused this to happen, I immediatly thought of a couple of days previous, I had a flat battery, and started it with jump leads using the wifes Ford Focus. any views on this and where can I get 10 and 15 amp fuses pretty quick, Liverpool area. Re: blown fuses
10 and 15 amp mini fuses are available from most garages or halfords, motor parts stores
Take a blown one with you to match but it should be simple

Re: blown fuses
I remember yer earlier query...
Could be a short somewhere?
Have you had any spots or fogs fitted..?
Just a thought.

Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Re: blown fuses
Hi, No I have not had any thing extra fitted, do you not think the jump lead theory could have caused it as I remember reading somewhere that you should conect the neutral lead to the chassis not the -terminal.Colin

Re: blown fuses
I've read that, but always gone terminal to terminal & never had no probs...
But since i fitted this fancy alarm, i would take no chances!

Re: blown fuses
This is an odd one the bongo is not one of the old Saabs and the side lights should not be permanently on, you were obviously sold a bongo with an inherent fault. Who did you get your bongo from and who fitted the roof was it Jal if so it should have come with a warranty, has it run out. It seems to me that there is a faulty connection somewhere and it is going to take a sparky to find out.

It was a joint purchase from Manchester Campers and Elite Camper Conversions

Re: blown fuses
Mine was a Jal purchase with an Elite conversion in January 2007. The split charging system that Elite installed was rubbish, fuses kept blowing and needing jump starts etc. Dandywarhol had a look at it and advised me to scrap the charging system that they installed and replace it with one of Willintons's Intelligent split Charging wiring looms which I installed myself. No problems since my bongo now starts and runs like a dream.

Re: blown fuses
Update. I downloaded the fuse layout and identies diagrams from the members area, and found the blown fuses to be, glowplug,
rear lights, rear wiper/washer, and AFT which I dont have, I replaced the fuses with the correct sizes, but the rear wiper/washer keeps blowing, and the lights still do not work and have still only got one headlight, Does any one know if a normal garage auto electrician would be able to sort it, being a Bongo without the wiring diagrams? Colin

Re: blown fuses
My local auto electrician was useless with my Bongo, charged me £115.00 for what amounted to just changing the fuse which blew again four days later when we were on our holidays. Being based in Liverpool I would think that your best option is to speak to one of the two Mikes (father & Son) at Wheelquick in Wigan. They know Bongos inside out and if they don't do the electrical work themselves they will know a man who can. Tel: 01942 217800. Website: www.wheelquick.co.uk

Re: blown fuses
Tony, I know the two Mikes I visited their place on a few occations when I was looking to buy. I have just come back from my local garage although they have not got an auto electrician he said he wold have a look at it for me, he has checked it out and at least ive now got two head lights one of the plugs on the headlight bulb was off, and the bulbs are all ok, he is most certain it will be the switch on the steering stalk, I dont know if I could take it apart and check it out ( anybody know how?) but thats my next thing to do before calling a pro;!
