Hi
Can I wire a switch into the brakelight circuit to flash the brakelights at tailgaters without upsetting any circuitry? Over here I cannot believe how close people get to the rear of the car...I have not experienced anything like it in any other country. I stepped on the brakes the other day to flash the lights, and the idiot behind took nearly 4 seconds to react, and he stayed back for a while. I know this may not meet with regulations, but when you value your life, and drive in a considerate manner,it would be nice to think of your own safety!

I have cruise control & find I can disengage it by lightly pressing the pedal which activates the switch a few mm before it starts to apply the brakes. Therefore, you could adjust the switch position such that it activates the lights the moment you apply any pressure to it. I seem to recall the switch is adjusted via a locking nut to raise & lower its position.

I'll look at that. I just don't like taking my foot off the throttle, as it plays havoc with fuel consumption doing that every time one of these mad wotsits is on my bumper, and I wasn't at all sure that the brake-light switch isn't conected to any other sensor. My lights do come on before the brakes, and I could adjust it finer as you suggest, but there was this nagging doubt.
As an aside, i think a large number of Bulgarians don't pass a driving test, but drive round the corner and pay 250 euros for a pass...yes...corruption is at every level over here ...there is an enquiry going on over here on this Test Bribing, as a bus wiped out 16 people the other day, and questions were asked as to the validity of his PSV licence

The brake light switch is used to clear ECU fault codes Helen. I wouldn't think it would cause a problem - a gentle dab with the left foot whilst still under power would probable be easier.

Thanks...I do that, but what about a slightly longer application...they hardly notice brake lights that flash momentarily....One of the roads over here is an absolute nightmare...speed limit 40 MPH (60 KPH)...it's not uncommon for cars doing over 160KPH, and ending millimetres from the rear bumper
