Roof Yet Again
Like many others I can't get the roof to go up.The hand brake is on and panel light comes on, engine running, switch pressed. The bleaper sounds but no sound of motors trying to run.Fuse is ok.The hand brake switch is giveing a good earth.
Is there a switch on the Gear Selecter(Automatic).
Started to rip out the roof linning as a first step but can see a cable going up into roof at the rear driver side.
Help

Re: Roof Yet Again
you have it in park, hand brake up fully?, make sure you give the handbrake a last little tug, 1 click will stop the roof going up

Try PMing Kirsty (MissFixit70) or have a search on here. There's a microswitch that is triggered by the handbrake being raised I believe and it is possible that is not doing its job properly. But either search on here or Kirsty has I know advised someone successfully on this before. Good luck - keep us posted (and don't start pulling the car apart....yet!)

Re: Roof Yet Again
mrsam has mentioned the light is glowing on the dashboard - that would indicate the handbrake switch is working correctly. Any sign of movement or noise from the motors? Try pressing the switch to the Close position too - it may be 'in limbo' between up & down mode.

OK sorry, thought it might have been a different switch involved

Re: Roof Yet Again
Theres also a module for the roof in one of the door pillars as well if i remember correctly, (passenger side i think) could have a loose wire or could be fubar

Re: Roof Yet Again
Thanks everyone for your comments, not yet able to raise the roof.Have located the roof controler at the rear passenger side.
Have applied 12volts to the motors via the 4 pin connecter and can hear the motors runnig but no movement on the roof.
Have applied a lifting force(via a blow up matress) to assist the motors but still no movement.
Is there any physical lock on the roof when it is in the down position.I know there are 3 guides in the shape of metal loops and 2 plastic guides towards the front.
Really scratching my head hopeing it can be fixed without removing the roof.

Re: Roof Yet Again
Dreamwarrioruk had a problem when closing his roof once, he started to close it and only 1 side came down, cracked the roof.
Turned out that its a mole drive thing, and the motor had come loose and the mole drive had unscrewed itself somehow, this could be whats wrong with yours, but I doubt it would come loose on both sides at the same time
just a thought but is the sunroof hatch open?, if so try clicking the lock cancell button

Re: Roof Yet Again
Hi Supreme Being,
Operated the Unlock Switch several times and got no results,Dissconected the battery still the same problem.Thats why I finally went for the control box.The cicuit diagram shows that the motors are conected in parallel and are fed by 12 volts(from fuse 12).The controlbox switches this to lift or lower the roof.Read somewere that the motors have a clutch,so went on to put 12 volts across the motors.
The motors run and finally stop but there is no movement of the roof.Tried it with the voltage reversed some noise from the motors but still no movement.
Either the mechenism is siezed or there is a lock on the roof.
Help is neaded

Re: Roof Yet Again
hmmn, silly question but have you tried pushing the roof maually whilst pressing the button, i mean give it a real good push, not really sure what else could be wrong to be honest, strange one, especially if you have it park, handbrake on full, pressed the lock cancell button ect, checked the fuses.
If you have checked all these then I dont know what else to sugest.
Next thing will be to strip the switches and check for a losse wire or a broken wire.

Re: Roof Yet Again
To days up date.
The roof went up and down after a lot of banging and reconecting all the cables I could get to.It stuck again half up just when I thought every thing was ok.So I greased every furface I could see and then disconected the motors. These operated when power applied.I proped the roof then disconected the carriers, held on with 5 hex scres on both sides. You can then move the carrier up and down and can see the mechanical carrier flexy rod--a bit like an streched old fashioned curtain rail.(probably got a proper technical name) passing the gaps vacated by the motors. So with the help of a trusty friend we squirted grease over the whole range of the flexy rods while moving the carrier.Put every thing back together sounds easy but it was quite fiderly.Switched on and up and down it went.Rain then stopped play so will try again tomorrow.

Re: Roof Yet Again
sounds liked some dodgy conection, once you start to get the roof up, theres some micro switches in the runners, give them a good clean , this will cause the roof to work off and on
Cant recall a roof ever getting stuck down apart from the usal errors to do with handbrake ect, or the actaul module failing, only ever heard of this happening once

Re: Roof Yet Again
By feeding 12volts to the motors at the Roof Control Box you are by-passing all the switches and microswitches so the problem had to be either a bad connection in the 3 conectors inside the roof. There are 2 feeding the motors and another that is between these and the Control Box.So the fault had to be either the motors themselves or mechanical.
Not sure yet about the motors, when I measured the resistance of each motor I found a significant diference that I 've yet to investigate.
Will post when all done.

Re: Roof Yet Again
Well bad news for me.It wouldn't work today.Stuck down with no movement even with the microswitches by-passed.While working on it yesterday it seamed that there was quite a bit of play on lifting the roof when it was partially opened and I think that the roof is locked down with the last bit of travel carring the guides into the 2 black plastic end fittings on the ends alloy rails. This stops you from lifting the roof when its fully down.
Would be very grateful if any one out there has a roof they can open could measure between the front edge of the black bit and the front of the roof. Also if you could see how these are secured to the alloy rails.
I've got the roof lining off and though there aren't any nuts or bolts in the area of the black fitting there are some screw retaining inserts.

Re: Roof Yet Again
The distance from the leading edge (sealing point) on the AFT to the rear of the black lock shroud is 33 inches, thats the point where the rollers are clear to lift upwards, the leading edge of the shroud is about 4-5 inches less about 28 inches.
The Lush Project pages may help you here this a one page of two pages to the AFT.
