unknown switch

hi all,
i have a switch on my dashboard and i don't know what it does..!!!
it has been added on at some point.
it has 1 cable going from the starter battery to the switch and 1 cable from the switch to the consumer board in the rear.
when i switch it on, it lights up but nothing seems to happen....
a little vague i know,
any ideas....???? :?

It must have been added to make it legal in the UK...MOT?

To do that it should be connected through the headlight circuit.
