Because your posts are on an open forum and make interesting and useful reading for the rest of us. Well, I missed you while you were away and am glad you're back with your wisdom AND your humour (not to mention your holiday photos  )

Thank you.

And Kelv, whilst this has nothing to do with coolant, if you want to see the varied responses to what I thought was a sensible question earlier today have a look at http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =1&t=32009 Not the first response, but the other two.

Where would we be if car manufacturers never made any stupid design faults?

If Jaguar had never designed their 6 cylinder engine to overheat it's rear cylinder, if VW had never designed their flat four to overheat one of it's heads (can't remember which one), if peugeot/citroen hadn't designed their XUD engine to have a cooling system where the head (like the Bongo) was the highest part of the circuit so that any air collected there instead of bleeding out like any normal car.

In a much happier place that's where.

PS
If you want blown head gaskets and cracked heads buy an XUD engined car  it will trump a Bongo any day.

Kelv serious (non-snotty) question here

Do you run anti-virus software on your computer?

If so why?

I was thinking about smoke alarms too. Bet we've all got them.

There seems to be a need for folks with coolant alarms to "convert" the non believers

I have an open mind.
I also have an interest in possible alternative solutions to what appears to be looking like a poorly designed Bongo cooling system.
Why the hard sell ?
Is there some commision to be made

No thanks, will keep the post Bongo specific.
Using non topic related analogy will only confuse the debate.

Just an analogy - if there is no point to an alarm on a Bongo there is no need for anti-virus on a computer (or smoke alarms for that matter).

Sorry if that's too hard to appreciate.

No need to apologise for your ability to appreciate analogy Mr Scanner .

It's easily cured by keeping an open mind

Now, back to this Bongo..........

If someone has a way to eliminate the vulnerability of the coolant system, then I'm all ears, honestly!

I am in no way an expert, but if there isn't such a way to do it in existence, it comes down to risk management on a vulnerability- maintenance, checks etc.

I am used to a temp gauge showing a realistic representation on a vehicle. For whatever reason, the Bongo one as standard doesn't, so I have fitted something that bridges that gap. My own personal choice, my risk management. I do a daily dip test on my coolant level and look underneath the vehicle. A*al, perhaps, but I grew up doing such regular checks on a variety of vehicles in a farm/road haulage environment. Will I fit a low coolant alarm? Personally, yes, because I can't do a dip test while driving.

But this is my personal risk management-not right for everyone, granted and you make your own choices in life, and live with them.

Me too !
Wouldn't that be great 8)
And no, an alarm doesn't do that, it just gives notification of failure rather than eliminating the vulnerability of the cooling system.
Although, if taken notice of, it might limit the damage caused by the overheating......... maybe.
Which, isn't quite the same as making the system itself more robust.
We would need an expert for that, like you say.
Anybody expert enough to volunteer ?

No, thought about it - but you've lost me there. :?

Nothing to cure, as I do have an open mind - I also learn by experience, mine and others.
Now, back to this Bongo..........
Love the humour at the end. =D>

Any relevant points appreciated.
I fail to see how an "I said /you said "type of post like the one above will benefit the other forum members, or the debate in general............ but never mind.
Once again.............
Back to this Bongo cooling system...........

Give TheGreatPretender a shout & discuss moving the stat to the outlet side of the engine with him, he builds race cars, knows his onions (& engines)
