How do i remove this...

Post by dvisor » Sat Jun 06, 2009 6:02 pm

Hi - how do I remove the end panel on my dashboard - is it just a case of sticking a screwdriver in the edge and prising it off?

Mine came off that way.
Yours may be the same.

Give it a good yank, I didn't need a screwdriver, it just clips in place but they are very firm clips.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Next question  The panel came off no problem - the reason I took it off was to get access to the rear of the dash. When I first took the Bongo out for a test drive 6 months ago, it had an annoying dashboard squeak, which the seller fixed. It's come back again now, so I thought I'd tighten it up. I've identified where the squeak is coming from. This is it seen from the hole where the dashboard dials are:

...and this is where it is from the side (you can't actually see where its mounted, because its behind the bracket):

Access is really difficult, and I can't even tell whether its a screw securing it, or whether its just an unsecured lug. Can anyone shed light? Thanks.

I've always had a rattle from the top of the dash on the drivers side corner (probably a clip thats let go) and have never known how to get at it to fix it. I wedge a chamois/foam windscreen demister thing in the corner between windscreen and dash to stop the rattle but I'd love to get access and fix it properly so will watch this thread with interest.

So did we, in the end I used a bit of stiff wire and ran it along the slot between rear of dashboard and glass, I pulled out about ¥55 in all, several were jammed and then others would rattle against them. Its nice and peaceful now the odd parking ticket doesn't make that much noise ;-)

Does the Lush Projects picture help, there is a screw shown on the actual metal support but there are also clips but I can't quite make out which secures the console myself ... actually maybe its clip 2 and the self tapping screw that holds it in place ?

I'm finding it hard to work it out from the diagram - I can't see anything on it that looks quite like what I have. It looks like two plastic lugs go through the bracket. One of the lugs feels like it may have a small screw in the end (though I can't see how that would secure it to anything), and the other feels like it has a hole running through it (so maybe a screw has worked itself loose and come out?). I've got a dental mirror knocking around somewhere - if I can find it I'll see if that gives me a better view from the other side.

Good tip - I'll try that. I think it may be a bust fastening though as the dash seems to move when I press on it. But I'll certainly have a go at eliminating Yen from my enquiries
