brake piston help

need help getting pisting moved back to fit new brake pads, cant get it to shift what can i be doing wrong, tried taking cover of brake fluid still nothing help please

Some have to be wound back in, not pushed straight back it.
Does it have a square notch in the outer face?

no square edge , should the gear stick be in neutral or should the handbrake be up or down

just tried a g clamp on it, still wont budge what am i doing wrong, help bongos in bits

It doesn't sound as if you're doing anything wrong I've not worked on the Bongo brakes yet, so don't know if the piston just pushes back or screws (some pistons just have a slot in the end for a large screwdriver) - I thought that others had said that they just pushed back in, so I can't see why a G clamp doesn't work. Somebody more knowledgeable should be along shortly - if not, just stick the old pads back in to get you mobile again.

No done one before on a Bongo, but some calipers have a grub screw behind the piston in the casting of the caliper, that you unscrew to allow the piston to return. Then once the new pads are fitted and the caliper/s is back, on you screw the grub screw back in until the pads just lightly rub against the disc. Make sure all the adjustment is backed off of the H/brake cable before you do all this and adjust it back up last thing of all. Saab cars are like the way I have just explained. I had a customer buy new calipers as he thought they were faulty when he tried to do the pads because of this.
But if you are not sure get someone who is, brakes are not to be messed with! As I found out two years ago when I had both my legs crushed by a Ford Mustang with brakes that the customer had been fiddling with. still recovering now. but it did make me buy a Bongo!! as I cant do the clutch anymore.

when i did ours they just pushed back in with a g clamp

On mine i just pushed it back when the old pads were out, not a quick easy process goes in slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww as i remember and alot of body wieght Not saying it the right way but it worked for me, i looked at the fact sheet, was dead easy i wont say what i used to push it back with been on 12 month now and it still stops but i fear the fronts are gonna have to be done for mot

The piston on the brake calipers should just push back into the housing - have done both fronts and rears on my van - it sounds like yours is either seized or may have some corrosion or dirt on the piston stopping it going back in. you said you had loosened the cap on the fluid reserviour - did you undo it fully ? If you cannot get the piston back into the body it sounds like the piston may need to be pushed out and cleaned up - but you will need to bleed you brakes again as you will loose the brake fluid in the brake line. Hope this helps.

hi stan...dont panic...anyway i used a pair of plumbers adjustable wrench type things as they seemed to fit the best and with them on the widest notch gave good leverage,indecently i have often wondered if a bricklayer can lay bricks......why cant a plumber lay plums???? or is it just me...good luck...

I use a g-clamp plus a bit of wood on the piston face to protect it. Once you've got the g-clamp purchasing OK the piston should retract with no probs as you tighten the g-clamp. If not, summat is seized I reckon. Have you peeled back the rubber boot to have a look at condition of the exposed piston section?
