AC electrical problems
Hey all,
This one has been driving me up the wall today. Help me bongo fury, your my only hope....
The AC pump clutch won't fire up but the relay, fuse and wire harness seem OK. This leaves the head unit, does anyone know which of the many wire in the back of the digital control box should spark up when I press the button? The 'AC' text comes on but no more.
A bit of a long shot but the part looks expensive so would like to be 100% sure its blown before I buy an new one. anyone had this before or got/seen a spare for sale?????
Thanks in advance.
Jim

Re: AC electrical problems
Could just need regassing - about £50 at Kwik-Fit and free if it doesn't work.

Re: AC electrical problems
unclip the brown connector on top of the drier bottle(to the right of the radiator - cylinder shaped object with spyhole on top).......link it across with some electrical cable....run your engine and fire up the A/C.....this should start the pump and engine fans.....if that works.....re gas as your low on refrigerant....

Re: AC electrical problems
it does need a re gas but thats not the problem here...
The relay that starts the aircon is not getting any power when you press the ac button. I have bypassed the relay and the clutch sparks up. I pretty sure (but not 100%) the problem is in the head unit on the dash. Any one know what all the wires do or got a wiring diagram?
Cheers

Re: AC electrical problems
Doubt it will help you the wiring manual doesn't show the insides of the various "modules" only the external wiring connections;

Re: AC electrical problems
Thanks geoff just what I need,
I think that says that if I hit the AC button port '2a' round the back of the head unit should power up with 12v and trip the ac relay to on, if not I have a duff unit. Will try tomorrow...

Re: AC electrical problems
Well I think you will find that connector 2A has +12 volts from the ignition switch on it, I'd try 3H to see if the compressor motor(?) comes on - not had to investigate that area yet !

Re: AC electrical problems
I think you're looking for a problem that isn't there. I'm not sure about the Bongo, but lots of systems won't power up if the gas is low - this is to protect the system as the PAG oil may also be low.

OK, that makes a lot of sense. Would seem that the bongo system is brighter than I am!
On the plus side I've learnt a bit more about the innards of my bongo which is no bad thing
Grateful for all your help, will try and pressurise up tonight on post up in case anyone else is a dumb as I and stumbles across this thread.
