mazda 5 alloys

Post by oshkosh » Thu May 07, 2009 9:59 pm

Hi all, got some great looking 17'' Mazda 5 alloys for my bongo. just got to get the tyres now!question is: when on tyre calculator site ,which tyre size do I put in for the Bongo as it has two different sizes? (195 front/215 back)
the rim width for my new alloys is 6.5j . does anyone have the same alloys and what tyres are you running yours on?
thanks

I see the great pretenders getting 225/55/17 fitted at wheelquick, if they're fitting them ,I assume the speedo will be spot on, so I might go for these.

It's not just to do with loading the van up Stevie - it's to do with the combined force on a tyre when you hit a pothole/bump/get airbourne etc.
It's also to do with you're insurance company not paying me out if you run into me and you've got on unsuitable tyres!

I've just been on www. kouki .co.uk and typed in the tyre size for Great Pretenders 17' alloys (225/55/17) the calculator reckons with these wheels, if your speedo reads 60mph you will actually be doing 62.0mph. according to the calculator 225/50/17''s would be nearer an accurate speedo reading.
how accurate are these tyre calculators? are they all the same or is there a slight variation in there readings, and who do you trust to be accurate?

Tyre calculators are good - speedos aren't :D
I use 225/55x17 and speedo is pretty accurate with satnav :D

Bit late on this thread, but I too use 55s on my 17". Lubbly jubbly, speedo spot on, better for taking the bangs out of the bumps than 50s. I'm tempted to try 60s when the job comes round again
