Slight starting problems

Post by tomsk » Mon May 11, 2009 7:16 pm

Hi all
The Bongo used to hesitate ticking over, when starting in the winter, but ok when weather was warmer.
It is now starting to have have the same problem all of the time. I have had the glowplugs checked by my mechanic, and says they are all working. Do they wear out, and would it be worth changing them?
Also can someone please advise what make and type of glowplug to fit.

Thanks

Tom

Top of the fuel pump. Do a search for banjo and it'll reveal loads of threads 8)

Thanking you all for your help on this matter.

I followed the link you gave me Sparky, and cleaned out this small fuel filter, it appears to have solved my current problem. Remains to be seen if it continues, as I only did it yesterday. However it started fine this morning.

Thanks again.

Regards

sounds like glowplugs...have you tried leaving it after the glow plug light goes off untill you hear the relay click then try starting it....

all you are doing is letting the plugs warm up properly,im no expert but with new common rail diesel technology these things dont seem to matter so much but as i see it the bongo is yeh many years old and though in many ways way advanced in this matter a bit ancient.maybe you need new plugs maybe a new glowplug relay but try this tomorrow and see how it goes....if it fires cleanly with no juddering or smoke then my mortgage would be on the relay...
