Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
I used Rustbusters in Poole.
Expensive but a Rolls Royce job. £650 for black and white waxoyl, with panels injected and a very thorough coating. The underneath of the Bongo was cleaned and treated first as well.
As I live near Poole it worked out as about the same as Rustmaster, when you added petrol to get up to the midlands.
I had mine done last year. Too soon to say how effective. I owned an old Range Rover that had had this treatment early in its life and it stayed in remarkably good condition for years of hard use.

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
Seems expensive compared with the north. Chassis Clean near Manchester Airport did a Royles Royce job on my Bongo in January for £430.00. The process took three days using dinitrol.

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
I went to Rustmaster, read the advert, he DOES use 'Waxoyl Professional' (tougher stuff than ordinary), I've seen the cans, he IS the only person in the UK authorised to do so. He's a top bloke and, I'm sure, gives Fury members a discount. I've got photos on before and after on here somewhere.
Wee edit, go to search and type 'myfanwy' and there's photos of my van getting Rustmastered.

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
Hi,
I used Rustmaster in St Albans. Guy did a good job, only thing I'd say is there is some overspray of wax that is easily cleaned off with white spirit. Trouble for me was I'd spent a couple of days beforehand really cleaning my bongo up, should have left it until afterwards.
Having said that they did a good job and I would recommend them. They gave me a lift to St Albans town which is an okay place to spend a few hours whilst they are working.
Beforeandafter are near Newbury, again they are well recommended but Rustmaster from memory was around £100 cheaper.

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
Thanks everyone for the very good advice.
I shall probably give the place in Haywards Heath a ring, as its close, but failing that it
may be trip up to St Albans.
The exhaust is currently blowing, so I need to get that fixed before hand.

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
Hi
I went to see Michael at Rustmaster, 2 years ago.
I decided to go to him because of his professional website ad.
And I thought that you get what you pay for.
You don't really know if the job is good or not. You pay and go.
However when I later, (after 18 months) took the Bongo to my local Bongo friendly garage, the guys said that the waxoyl job had been done very well. All the crevices had been done etc.
So I was very pleased and therefore and very happy to recommend Rustmaster.

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
I didnt even know that bongos needed this before reading this post,i had a look at rustbusters in poole, but they are way more pricey. £650 is a bit much they didnt mention on their site about a gaurentee or if they wash off under side/or see to any rust spots prior to rust proofing.

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
You don't have to have an expensive job, though its a nice touch if you can budget it in. The main thing I think is not to be seduced by dealers pushing the 'its been waxoyled' line as not all of them do it with any real care. You get what you pay for really, but I think if you came North you might find a garage that would do a good job using basic waxoyl material and that cost you about £150. With ordinary waxoyl, they say you should redo it in high abrasion areas (wheel arches etc.) every year, as it washes off. But you could probably DIY that for min. cost each year.chipvan wrote:I didnt even know that bongos needed this before reading this post,i had a look at rustbusters in poole, but they are way more pricey. £650 is a bit much they didnt mention on their site about a gaurentee or if they wash off under side/or see to any rust spots prior to rust proofing.
I did go to Chassis Clean though (£400 at the time) and am very happy with the result (its a 'for life' job although even they say have it checked and touched up every 3 years and I can see one or two places where mine would benefit).

Yes. And don't make the common mistake of typing waxing and bongo's into google

Re: Professional WaxOyl recomendations Question
There's a thread on here covering specific points to cover when Waxoyling - should give you a pretty good background regarding particular issues with the Bongo.
If the Waxoyling (or any rustproofing coating) doesn't include the inner panels (arches, sills, doors, etc) then imo it's only half a job, as these parts will almost certainly rust through from the inside over time.
(The 'undersealing' which came 'free' with my niece's Bongo was laughable - it really did look as though someone had walked around the car, reaching under with a spray gun, and firing off at random. )
