hi
i seem to have a diesel leak coming from the fuel pump. took it to the garage i use & i was told its quite a common problem for it to leak from the pump. he said he may have to remove the pump & send it away to be reconditioned if the leak is coming from the seals at either end of pump. it looks as if its coming from 1 of the pipes that lead to the injectors.
not sure, has anybody experienced this problem with any advice ??? cheers steve

Yup. Some (Dandywarhol notably) have nifty hands and replaced the O ring seals on the side plates without removing the pump - I did my back in trying. Wheelquick did my offside one quickly and cheaply. But it is now leaking on the other side so must take it in for that to be done (trickier to reach, the unit may have to come off). Results can be mixed (Dandys still leaked a bit after the work I think he said) but worth trying it (Lawson Diesels in Edinburgh can supply and post the O rings). The leak could be from elsewhere, but the above is a common cause. Wheelquick warned a reconditioned unit would be £600 plus - I don't fancy forking that out unless essential

the guy i use for all my work has plenty of experience on bongos & hes local in kilmarnock & iff the pump has to come off then he sends it to a place in Drongan only about 15 miles away. i'll just have to hope for the best.

i found out the hard way the other week diesel+rain+motorbike=ouch

Is there no end to the money sucking ability of these Japanese cast offs masquerading as reliable cars

...and this was Wheelquick quoting, and they are not money suckers, so I had to assume that is what these things cost. In fairness. they look a fancy piece of kit and since I had paid £600 for an ECU for my Spacewagon as far back as 2001 I reckoned the pump/injector was just one of those expensive things you get on cars. I've seen 2nd hand ones on ebay trying for £200 and they of course have no guarantee they will perform properly
I hope your comment about cast-offs masquerading as reliabe cars was tongue in cheek or I'd have to take serious issue with you

No, of course it was tongue in cheek

It's not as if we only get them after the Japanese have finished using them as Taxis .
Nobody goes around fitting aftermarket warning systems to them in case one of the major engine functions fails or anything

They seem as least as reliable as the cars I drove in the 70s

You should be able to get a quality refurbed Bongo for £600 quite soon the way prices are sliding

My pump was leaking (constant flow) from the o-rings as described above. Got replacement seals from the place in Scotland and managed to replace them. That stemed the main leak but I then noticed a dripping coming from the back of the pump. Obtained the seal for this one and a special tool for the triangular nut and did that one.
My pump is pretty much cured now but for a small drip that forms around the lower outboard screw head on the back of the pump. Spoke to guy who supplies the seals and confirmed that that can only be cured by removing the pump. As this drip is very slow i.e. I've never seen the drip actually drop I will live with it as is.

No not at all

. No diesel is finding its way to road from my Bongo. Its hard to describe but all I get is a very small blob forming just under the bolt. I have never seen it drop and if it did it would absorbed into the under tray.
