starting problems

Post by al.b » Sun May 03, 2009 8:24 am

Hi to all

Over the last few months ,starting in any weather has been hit/miss. I changed the glow-plugs about a year ago. Now it wont start at all!! I have checked the voltage from the glow-plug relay to the 12v rail.

After almost giving up as I don't know if the relay is on its way out or all of the plugs have now gone. Before I go into a corner and cry, can anyone help me to try to get back on the road.

1. Does the relay just stop working as you can hear it click when turning on ignition
2. Do glow plugs wear out/fail so soon?
3. Is their something else to check?

The cost of these relays is very expensive! and I would hate to pay for a new one only to find out it is something else. Typical, I have been out to check start the van again and it started!! tried again 10 minutes later ,nothing.

Any suggestions please? located in Preston, Lancashire. Thanks (Bongo 1996 2.5 td auto)

If you are getting electirc to the glowplug rail it must be the plugs if it was the relay or fuse/fusable link no electric would reach the rail.

the plugs can be tested but it seams the ngk ones are the ones to go for

I'm assuming that when it doesn't start, the engine is turning over, just not catching?
