I've just spent ages on that site reading (or trying to read) up on how the japanese view the bongo... here's a mention about the headlights....

The design of the headlight circumference is refreshingly and:Suitable good .
→Is the design a problem of the favor? However, it is ..Sharp.. impression and there is no [gotegote] feeling.

There's nowt worse than a gotegote feeling!

Although under warranty [-o< , how much and how long do they last.

Thanks

Righto, here goes and I'm prepared to be shot down in flames.

It's my opinion that the VC is a service item - in other words it's got a finite life and will eventually need to be replaced.

When? Thats a different matter...............The silicon fluid in the VC is going to deteriorate from day one. The Factory fitted different size tyres to make the Bongo steer better. Thats a fact substantiated by Mazda blurb supplied by our knowledgable friend Demon in Russia. The Factory design allows for a rolling difference of 1% between front and rear to be acceptable - i'm not going to challange that. It does mean that the VC is under constant slippage though and the silicon gel will deteriorate.

The recommended practice when renewing tyres on full time 4WD is to change them all at the same time - this then keeps the rolling circumference within the 1% tolerance. The problems start when tyres are not changed as a set and only in pairs (os singles!) Then the rolling circumferences difference start to cause problems. 2 new tyres at either end and legal 2mm tyres at the other will result in over 2% difference - giving the VC a hard time.

I reckon this is substantiated by folks with high mileage Bongos fitting the same tyre sizes all round and the tyre scrubbing (caused by a worn VC) temporarily cures the problems.

So - to answer you question as to how long a VC lasts - I don't know and unless I bought a very low mileage one with original tyres all round then I'm happy with my choice of 2WD
