coolant bleeding

hi there peeps,
is there a link on here to explain fully the coolant bleeding method? I spoke to hyden about the proper way to do it and tried my best for about an hour using the see saw method.and my engine got quite hot but the bottom hose was still cold even after about an hour meaning the thermostat was not opening.I dont know if iI did it the correct way or if the thermostat is in need of replacement it may help if there was a link I could print off with step by step instructions.
I hope I haven't caused any damage as there was a lot of blue smoke out of the exhaust.I think I may have to get someone to look at it which will have to wait as funds are tight unless there is some one local to stoke who feels like showing me what to do!

I did not realise till I had finished messing about trying to bleed the system that the air con button was on

would this stop the thermostat from opening?or should i just replace it on the next attempt anyway?

Aircon makes no difference - it's nothing to do with the cooling system.
Thermostat must open or you'd overheat in no time. Did you follow the fact sheet instructions and run the engine at 2500rpm? It takes a long time to get the engine hot enough to open the stat.

I reckon if the aircon is on it could be difficult getting it up to temp as the fan'll be kicking in. best to switch it off anyway.

yes the fan did keep kicking in I think this may be beond my capabilities and may have to find more money!
