Heater stopped working!

Post by mellyarnold » Sun Apr 26, 2009 9:42 am

Hello people, just wondering if you can offer some help. Went away in the bongo at weekend and all was fine with the heater, the following monday it would not work. There is no sound from the fan turning so maybe its just a fuze or something, but im not sure which one this is. Can anyone help, cheers guys.

Can you hear the fan on any of the speed settings?

There's a resistor pack under the bonnet that controlls the fan speed, and the terminals can come unsoldered.

Not too hard to fix if you can solder :?

There's a really useful (aren't they all :D ) factsheet "Fan speed resistor" in the members area.

When I turn the fan on there is no noise. The air con green light comes on when turned onto 1, but there appears to be no heat coming out. Is this a fuse issue or what do we recon? I dont really want to take the fan apart to find out its not this. How can I elliminate the problem? Thanks guys.

Hi Mel - can't think what detailed advice to give off the top of my head but I know thre's been loads of chat about fans that don't work. really, you need a multimeter so you can start measuring if power is getting through to various points as it could be fuse, or fan resistor, or switch. Sounds like a fuse or switch since its completely dead. Usually I think the fan will work on full speed if the resistor has gone, unless maybe its gone 'open circuit'. Hope someone who's tackled this may be along to help but otherwise have a search as its all there somewhere.

how ya doin anyway 8)

Hi, have a look at the thread i started "Front blower not working. Advice please."
I had the same problem as you and was advised to join the members area to get hold of the fact sheet. Well worth the £12!!!!
Got the fact sheet this afternoon while in work. Bought a soldering iron on the way home and its working agian now. If you do need to re solder the resistor, i did, make sure the fan is free before you turn it on or you may burn it out again. The fact sheet is very good!!!
