V6 Lower Engine Cover Removal

Post by apole » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:38 am

Hi guys,

Maybe a daft question but is it possible to remove the lower engine cover without the car raised?

Mine is in 2 parts but as the V6 has much less ground clearance I'm wondering if it's possible to remove this without the car raised. Have visions of getting the cover stuck half on and off !!!

You'd struggle to do it comfortably without the car raised on the diesel, so if the V6 has less clearance :? Can you not borrow a pair of ramps or pick some up cheap out of the local freeads or freecycle even? Mine get used all the time, 2 seconds & it's up (ooer missus  ), no fannying about with jacks & axle stands.

Hi, Yes I do have a way of raising the car, just wanted to take a real quick look at something, I find raising the car with the standard jack very slow and hard work so was being a bit lazy !!

Good to know though, thanks for getting back to me.

Agree with you on using the jacks, does my head in, not got a high kerb or a couple of hefty chunks of wood that you could drive onto to raise one side enough to get under?

Hi, not easily. TBH I was being lazy as I've recently had all the wheels off 2 times now so I'm somewhat fed up with raising it.

Wondering if I could buy or make up a C cup header for my normal trolley jack, that would really help.

It does apole but you run the risk of breaking it and getting it stuck, if i remember rightly i pushed it to the passenger side and backwards but never again i had and emergeny and had to get it out the way quick
