camping and bbq weekend 30/31st may derbyshire all welcome
hi all,
i`m taking the bull by the horns on this one and suggesting a date.muz kindly started a vote, but no-one seemed sure of a date,so i`m going with the weekend of sat 30th/sun 31st may at this place:
http://www.peakdistrict-nationalpark.co ... -Farm.html
as i mentioned before, facilities are quite basic, with toilets, water and washing up points and showers.fantastic views and very peaceful.no playground for the kids but an enormous field to run around in.
local attractions include:
gullivers kingdom 5 miles
matlock bath 5 miles
matlock 6 miles
cromford 3 miles(cracking chip shop)
carsington and black rock 4 miles
easy access to local cycle paths and walks.
river derwent for fishing a few hundred yards
derwent hotel for beer and good food a few hundred yards.
i just phoned the site and no rallies etc that weekend,so we`re in.no need to book normally as easy to just turn up,and about a tenner a night.no electric hook up,but barbecues are fine.open fires are not allowed, but it sounds like fires in a basket or other device are ok,just don`t take the stones from the walls!site is not particularly flat, but has flatter bits around the perimiter of the camping field.lovely views of the derwent valley in the morning when you wake, with the mist along the derwent.
all welcome, please come along and have a great weekend.

We stumbled upon Crest of the Wave in Ripley (other purveyors of fine quality fish & chips are available) when en route to Anchor Supplies which is an educational experience in itself - it's where we got our extra-heavy-duty tent-pegs for 10p each
But there are tons of decent chippies in Matlock Bath, if you can find somewhere to park
Strangely enough we knew some very strange people who lived just up the road from the campsite, between Whatstandwell and Cromford on the A6. There are still some relics of their existence if you know where to look, a story in itself, but only after a few beers!

Hi Jamie,Sharon & Kids of course
not to spoil anything but anybody going & taking their fishing tackle can't fish the river theres a close season from March 15th to June 15th on all rivers in the UK but can fish some canals & almost all ponds .
Anyway me & Christine are interested but can't say positive at the mo but will let you know (eventually)

hi ray,
i haven`t fished in a year or so,but you certainly used to be able to fish the derwent close season if you didn`t use maggots,as if you were fishing for trout etc instead.i can definitely remember waggling me worm instead
i will phone the pub tomorrow, where you get the day tickets and ask.
thanks
jamie

hi ray,
as regards the lack of leccy hookup, but there`s a lovely little stream that babbles its way through the camping field, and we`ve been known to keep our beer cool by leaving it in the stream
or failing that,a bucket full of icy water from the tap,and we stand the beer/wine in that.are u up for this,do u think?
jamie and sharon
p.s. have your pm`s subsided now?
