Replacing the rear bumper on a new shape (facelift?) Bongo?

Post by 2up2down » Sun Apr 19, 2009 9:09 pm

Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions on replacing the rear bumper on a new shape (facelift?) Bongo?

We were rear ended  on our way to the southern softies bongo bash, resulting in a crumpled rear bumper on our otherwise virtually immaculate Bongo  .

I guess when we get into the insurance bit we will be advised to take the Bongo to a repairer recommended by the insurer but, I suspect they will be stumped as to how to go about returning our bongo to its original condition. So I wondered if anyone could offer any advice in order that we can be forearmed.

Thanks George (Kingston, Surrey)

How bad is the damage? Has it dented anything behind the bumper as what you see is just a plastic cover. This itself (provided you don't have reversing sensors or something else fitted in the cover, is fairly easy to replace. You can buy a brand new one for around £200 and get it sprayed up properly for around £50 ish.

If this is the case then I'd go that way and fit myself, then you know it's done properly. However check carefully first that nothing else has been damaged as that would increase the cost. Also bumpers can be repaired which would reduce the cost.

Sorry to hear it's happened but at least nobody was hurt.

Thanks, I'll double check for any other damage; the only addition was a fog light.

Just spoke to my insurers and the other drivers details all checked out so if they accept liability I guess I’ll go through the insurance.

Bearing in mind he also managed to (accidently) head but me while checking the damage he was already fairly apologetic.
