New engine noise!

Post by neilf104 » Mon Apr 20, 2009 12:13 pm

Hi,

When I started up the other day I noticed a new noise from the engine. It's hard to describe but is somewhere between a squeak and a scrape! It's not constant & is only really audible on tick-over. It seems to come in cycles, gradually getting louder then stopping for 30 seconds or so, then starting again. It seems louder if you stand looking at the front, roughly in the line with the steering wheel. I've grovelled around underneath & the noise doesn't seem so loud there. I'm having all the belts renewed this week and wondered if that might be the problem. It all seems to be running OK, but in my limited experience noises are usually a warning sign.

Sorry, I know it doesn't make much sense, but you know noises, no two are alike. Be glad to hear if anyone has heard anything similar or has any ides.

Cheers
Neil

try a quick squirt of belt dressing on the belts (wd40 will do, just to eliminate the option, not cure the problem [-X ), it could be the no1 exhaust manifold stud, common problem, loads on here if you do a quick search.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
