Front Knocking....Advice Please...

Post by Aunt Trumpet » Sun Apr 19, 2009 6:24 pm

Hi,

We've had our bongo for about a week now and I've just noticed some slight knocking from underneath the front when driving over small bumps/potholes etc, there is a bit of a noise when turning on full lock too. My guess is it could be the front droplinks as when i had a look the other day they seemed a little worn and loose, but before i get some is there anything else it could be? or anything else i should look at? I can get a pair for about £23, is this a good price?

Thanks for any help. 8)

Helena called round last week, and her "other half" told me Vectra ones (1995 - on) fit. Bought a couple on Fleabay for about £13 (the two).

Had a look with the wheel off today, and they look the same length and thread dia, will be putting them on next week.

Front droplinks and anti roll bar bushes for the clonking. If its a 4 wheel drive Bongo the noise when turning at full lock could be CV joints. All of these are realtively inexpensive to fix but fingers crossed nuts aren't seized with rust on a/r brackets and/or droplinks.

Oh and welcome :D

Yup, that's why I didn't do the droplinks today!

Bear in mind the vectra ones may fit but are not designed for the bongo, I'm now on my second set of cheap droplinks replaced for free), the first set didn't last a year, lots of people had the same problem. May be worth getting the heavier duty ones or the proper Mazda ones, may not of course, they might be equally crap

Did the same last year, seemed a bargain but not up to the job. Although they do fit, they aren't designed to take the weight.

I only got 10 months out of a pair of those. They need doing again now but will defo splash out on the Mazda ones this time round.

Thanks for the advice, the cost of returning them doesn't make it worth while, so will put them on, and expect to have to do the job again next year.

(Once the hard-work of releasing the original ones is done, the work shouldn't take too long) :)

Spot on! And as luck would have it the Vectra ones I fitted (bought from my local motor factors - I wonder if there are different quality makes out there) are doing fine 18 months after fitting them. Rusty nuts aside, the job is quick as quick could be. 8)

...It may well be due to one of the two nuts that go behind the wheel
