Newbee Bongoers with glow plug rail shorting problems.

Hi we have just bought our Bongo which we are very happy with unfortunately the previous owner who sold ,it recently changed the glow plugs and, after it being suggested by friendly man at bongobits.com, I have discovered this has resulted in the same problem as this chap in your forum had (see quote below)
2) Took me ages!!!! Having recently changed my glow plugs for some nice new NGK's i focused my attention there to see if i had made a boo boo..... Well, it turns out that the top end of the NGK's were a little shorter than the Jap ones. The inside bit is the same and they work fine but due to the top measurement the glow plug rail was rubbing on the metal piping underneath it. It took a couple of weeks but the rubber on the rail eventually rubbed through and hey presto, earthed out the rail causing (1) to melt!!!
Also the fusible link connected to the glow plug control and the battery has gone as well. So I am now jumping in the deep end as to learning about diesel engines!
My questions are
1) I would be worried about bending those fuel pipes as they are short and I might snap them, can I adjust the glow plug rail a little higher by putting some nuts or washers under it where it is attached to glow plugs?
2) Their don't seem to be any fusible links in this country and will take 10 days to order some what alternative can I use and if a wired fuse what amperage should it be?

Fuel pipes bend easily - I just used a piece of wood that I placed on the pipes and gently tapped the other end 8)
You can replace the fusible link with an in-line fuse, but I can't remember the amperage :oops:

Mine is replaced with a 30 amp fuse it, blows 25 amps,

Many thanks, but are you sure those fuel pipes bend :? I dont want to get in trouble with HTMBO 8-[

I'm sure that mine bent :lol: I just threaded a length of 2"x1" timber through the gap and rested it on the curved bit of the pipes, between the injectors, that need bending. A few gentle taps with a hammer and they bent easily (and slowly) out of the way of the bar - they don't need to be bent much at all. I do emphasize that it should be done gently - you're not knocking nails in :lol: :lol:

You can "pack" up the rail if you don't want to bend the pipes. Anything as long as you keep the rail away from anything else

i used a bit of rubber and insulating tape. worked for 2 years till i got the longer glowplugs recently
