I've just bought the Silverline copy of the Pela pump and am about to change my oil and filter. Looking into the engine bay I can see the end of the filter casing. I would appreciate any tips re actually releasing and removing it. I have a chain filter grip device - a bit fiddly to use but it does the job with the fuel filter. Should I remove anything above the oil filter to get a clearer approach. Since I am doing this on the road in front of my house it gets tricky to get up on ramps but I could jack up the passenger side if that would help.

I did mine last week, I just used the Pela to remove the Oil, then I got a grip of the oil filter top and it turned off no probs, I did have a takeaway container that I held under,while turning the oil filter, then when it was off allowed the filter to be in the container to stop spillage.
I did, then lean over and pass the filter/container to the floor and retrieve from under the Bongo.
Cleaned up the filter face on the engine, then filled the filter with oil (old habits die hard), passed it under the Bongo and leaning through the engine bay located and screwed up the filter......filled the oil and started up the engine, checking for leaks - all nice and clean....no mess
I did, then lean over and pass the filter/container to the floor and retrieve from under the Bongo.

Thanks Mike - that encouraged me to have a go - but then I discovered that the Silverline pump is faulty! So I shall have to speak to them tomorrow.

Agree with Mike to fill the filter with oil first - makes a big difference to the heart-stopping 'oil light on' wait when you first start the engine!
Fill the filter to the top, go back to filling the engine, check the filter and you'll find all the oil has disappeared! Top up again and keep doing so until no more soaks in to the element. If necessary drain off the small amount that would trickle out when the filter is turned on its side for refitting, but as soon as you locate the filter on to the threaded spigot, no more (well, a few drops...) oil will come out of it in any case.
